Why You’ll Love This Recipe!

You are going to love the way your house smells as this Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread is baking. It’s hard to go wrong with a combination of cinnamon and chocolate!

Quick breads are one of my favorite things to make during the holidays for gift giving because they are easy and quick to make and everyone loves them!

I love that I can make one big loaf or three mini loaves.

Ingredients you will need

  • Chocolate Chips. I prefer to use semi sweet mini chocolate chips but you can also use full size chips. You could also chop up a chocolate bar and use it.
  • Oil. You want a mild flavored oil such as vegetable oil or canola oil. The oil helps make this bread really moist.
  • Buttermilk. Buttermilk gives baked goods a more tender texture and adds a very slight tang. In addition, it helps give quick breads a rise.
  • Butter. I use salted butter
  • Baking Soda
  • Eggs
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Flour. I prefer unbleached all purpose flour
  • Sugar. Granulated sugar and brown sugar
  • Salt.

How to Make Your Own Buttermilk

To make your own buttermilk, combine 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon white vinegar, stir and let sit for 5 minutes.

You can also use lemon juice by combining 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon lemon juice, stir and let sit for 5 minutes.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread

  • Add all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix to combine.
  • Pour in chocolate chips.

  • In another bowl combine granulated sugar and brown sugar along with the wet ingredients including buttermilk, oil, egg, vanilla extract, and both sugars.
  • Add dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix just until your dry ingredients are incorporated. It will be a nice thick batter.

  • Pour the batter into a greased prepared loaf pan.

  • Bake bread in a 350 degree F oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes in the pan and then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • While cooling, mix up glaze if desired.

Chocolate Glaze for Cinnamon Bread

This bread is delicious without the chocolate glaze but if you are feeling extra fancy or need more chocolate the glaze is the perfect way to do it.

  • In a bowl, melt the butter and chocolate chips together. You can do this in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stove top.
  • Mix in powdered sugar and just enough milk to get the desired consistency.

  • Drizzle chocolate over the top of the bread letting it run down the sides.

  • Let chocolate set up before slicing.

Tips from Leigh Anne

  • Baking time may vary depending on your oven. I always check it first at 50 minutes and then again about every five minutes until it is done. Stick a toothpick into the center of the bread, you may get some melted chocolate on the toothpick but there shouldn’t be any gooey batter.
  • You can line your loaf pan with parchment paper if you prefer to make removing the bread from the pan easier.
  • Don’t over mix quick bread. You want to stir just until all the dry ingredients are incorporated. Over stirring can cause the bread to be tough.
  • Instead of one large loaf you can make 3 mini loaves. Bake time will be 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Can I freeze cinnamon bread?

This bread freezes well. I recommend freezing it without the chocolate glaze. Wrap the bread well in plastic wrap and then in foil. You can also wrap in plastic wrap and then place in a zippered freezer bag. The bread will last in the freezer for 2-3 months.

Does the bread need to be refrigerated?

This bread is best stored at room temperature in an air tight container, not in the fridge. It will last for 4-5 days at room temperature.

Do I have to add the chocolate glaze?

This bread is delicious and full of chocolate flavor without the glaze.

Can I make this in a mini loaf pan?

You can get three mini loaves out of this recipe. Baking time will be 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Chocolate Chip Cinnamon bread is an easy quick bread with lots of cinnamon flavor. This bread would be great to make in mini loaf pans. Wrap it up in cellophane with a pretty ribbon, and you have the perfect teacher, friend, or neighbor gift.
