Why You’ll Love This Recipe!

It’s easy. You can put this best fruit salad recipe together in minutes! The prep time is less than 10 minutes.

It’s delicious! The ingredients are simple but delicious. You just drizzle the fruit with honey, lemon juice and poppy seeds and it is ready to serve.

Dessert or Salad? It’s so delicious you won’t be able to decide?

Ingredients Needed

Fruit: I change the fresh fruit up depending on the season. In season fresh fruit are always the best fruits to use.

Summer/Spring Fruit Salad. I love using a combination of berries such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and banana. You can also use pineapple, peaches, nectarines, cantaloupe, or honeydew.

Fall/Winter Fruit Salad. Apples, pears, oranges, kiwi and grapes work well. Canned mandarine oranges will also work. At the holidays I love to add in some pomegranate seeds.

  • Honey
  • Lemons. You can substitute other citrus such as lime juice or orange juice if you prefer. You can also throw in a bit of lime zest or lemon zest for even more flavor.
  • Poppyseeds

How to Make Fruit Salad

  • Wash your fruit, slice and assemble in a bowl. For this salad I use a combination of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and bananas.

Honey Lemon Fruit salad Dressing

For the dressing I used a simple yet delicious combination of lemon juice, honey and some poppy seeds. The dressing enhances the flavor of the fruit without overpowering it.

  • Drizzle the fruit with honey.
  • Squeeze lemon juice over the fruit and then gently toss to coat fruit with honey and juice.
  • Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  • Keep fruit salad chilled until ready to serve.

Tips for the Best Fruit Salad

  • Always use in season fruit and fresh fruit when possible. Sometimes I used canned mandarine oranges or pineapple.
  • Add the dressing to the fruit right before serving. The longer it sits with the dressing, the more the fruits will break down, releasing their natural juices and make the salad watery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you keep bananas from turning brown after slicing?

Bananas begin to turn brown quickly after being sliced. Bananas contain high levels of chemicals that contain iron. They oxidize when they hit the air and cause the banana to turn brown.

The lemon juice that is added to the fruit as part of the dressing will halt the browning process.

Can I use frozen fruit?

I don’t recommend using frozen fruit. When frozen fruit thaws it becomes soft and mushy and won’t hold up well in the salad.

How long will fruit salad last?

It is best served soon after the dressing is added. If needed, the dressing can be mixed ahead of time and kept covered in the refrigerator for a day or so ahead of time. Add to salad right before serving.
Leftover salad can be kept for a day or two in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

How delicious! I’m blessed to live in a climate where most of these fruits grow year-round, so I’d love to try this yummy breakfast mix. I have the feeling that tossing everything (minus poppyseeds) into the blender with a bit of yogurt would be a delicious smoothie as well! Thanks for sharing, as always.

This looks mouthwatering. I think we need to have this for Christmas day. The hard part will be deciding to have it for breakfast or dinner. It may end up at both meals.
